Together they are in the vanguard of the “new- Asian” cuisine movement currently sweeping across Southeast Asia’s burgeoning restaurant scene: On one side, Hans Christian, patron chef of Jakarta hotspot August (#46 Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants), a fine dining restaurant serving modern Indonesian cuisine with French technique. On the other hand, Aidan Low from Akâr Dining (Michelin-selected), praised for its sophisticated approach in reinterpreting endemic Malaysian ingredients and cultures through food.
Together they hold a shared culinary style that can be summed up as the “New Nusantara”; similarities in the history, culture, language, geography and flavour which span the Indonesian and Malaysian archipelagos. It is this shared culture and geography which will be the forefront of these two dinners.
Expect a fine dining tasting menu with familiar flavours developed and cooked in a whole new way; a celebration of terroir, culinary culture and two of the finest young chefs working in Southeast Asia today.
